The Kenai River opens June 11th for trout fishing – a prime time to engage in Kenai River Fly Fishing. King Salmon on the Kenai & Kasilof Rivers: Pursuing the Titans
Spin-n-glows, eggs, plugs, K-16's wrapped with sardines, vibrax, drifting, back-bouncing, back-trolling and spey fishing – these techniques are synonymous with targeting the Kenai River's Chinook Salmon. Home to the world record King Salmon (97 pounds), these turbo-charged behemoths can weigh 80 to 90 lbs., with the average catch between 25 to 50 lbs. You might just land the next record-breaker! King Salmon season kicks off mid-May and continues through July 31st.
Sockeye Salmon Fishing in Cooper Landing: A Bounty of Flavor and Fun
With two significant runs of Sockeye Salmon and a generous bag limit, Cooper Landing’s Kenai River is a magnet for anglers nationwide. Our Sockeye Salmon, known for their explosive runs, rival the Copper River Reds in flavor! Bring your catch back to our lodge for a gourmet preparation, or we can arrange to have it shipped home for you to share with friends and family. The Sockeye Salmon season starts June 11th and extends into early August. Book your Kenai River Charter early as most book out up to a year in advance!
Silver Salmon Fishing in Cooper Landing: A Test of Skill and Strength
Spanning late August through September and into late October, thousands of Coho Salmon make their way to the Kenai River. Famed for their fighting prowess, these salmon are pursued for their spectacular jumps and resilience. Averaging 8 to 15 lbs. in the Kenai River, Silvers are known for their aggressive feeding habits, readily striking plugs, spinners, and for fly anglers, streamers, and leeches. **Their fight is matched only by their exquisite taste. Whether on the rod or the grill, these salmon are a "reel" catch!
